{"id":4129,"date":"2023-08-11T09:13:34","date_gmt":"2023-08-11T14:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/?p=4129"},"modified":"2023-08-14T15:01:37","modified_gmt":"2023-08-14T20:01:37","slug":"legislators-to-join-dealers-at-niada-policy-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/legislators-to-join-dealers-at-niada-policy-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Legislators to join dealers at NIADA Policy Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dealers will meet with several senators and representatives during the NIADA Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss issues in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senators Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and John Thune (R-S.D.) have committed to join independent dealers during the policy conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Representatives from Texas, Dr. Michael Burgess, a senior member of the Energy and Commerce committee, and Henry Cuellar are also scheduled to spend time with dealers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indiana car dealer and state senator Andy Zay, who is running for a seat in the House of Representatives, will also be in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More lawmakers are expected to join the conference. NIADA staff will also be scheduling meetings on Capitol Hill with various legislators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Join us in D.C. for NIADA&#039;s National Policy Conference 2023\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/853507719?h=adf1169579&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NIADA Policy Conference is Sept. 19-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City. <a href=\"https:\/\/niada.com\/policyconference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Registration is open<\/a>. Dealers are requested to register by Friday, Aug. 11 to ensure the ability for the NIADA to set up meetings with legislators from their district. The deadline to book a hotel room is Aug. 16, but the limited inventory may sell out before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two-day event brings dealers together with members of Congress and regulators to discuss real legislative and regulatory issues facing the independent automobile industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-800x449.jpg 800w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660-1160x651.jpg 1160w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/IMG_3660.jpg 1368w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dealers participation will play a critical role discussing the unique problems and challenges facing the industry with legislators and describing the impact of policies on their business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among issues the NIADA will be addressing with lawmakers are the Federal Trade Commission\u2019s Vehicle Shopping Rule, Right to Repair and legislation to prevent catalytic converter thefts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NIADA is asking Congress to stop the Vehicle Shopping Rule, which would add costs, more paperwork and extend the sales process. The FTC published the rule in July 2022 and  NIADA supported industry comments in opposition of the rule. On July 13, the House Appropriations Committee reported out the Fiscal Year 2024 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill, which included language that stops the FTC from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing the Vehicle Shopping Rule.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/lI1v1Uo.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4124\" width=\"478\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/lI1v1Uo.jpeg 480w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/lI1v1Uo-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/lI1v1Uo-380x214.jpeg 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NIADA continues to support the proposed \u201cPreventing Auto Recycling Theft Act\u201d in the House of Representatives and Senate, which would assist law enforcement in their efforts to combat catalytic converter theft by marking catalytic converters and creating a more transparent market that deters its theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February, the NIADA acknowledged support for Congressman Neal Dunn (R-FL-2), reintroducing the REPAIR Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legislation would ensure consumers have access to data relating to their motor vehicles, critical repair information, tools, and provide them choices for the maintenance, service and repair of their motor vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference will include meetings with federal agencies and regulatory dignitaries Sept. 19. On Sept. 20, there will be Capitol Hill meetings around lunch at the Library of Congress.
