Coming out of the pandemic, Tim Evans needed to grow his business and hire new staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a first-generation business owner, Evans found hiring the right people to be a constant struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery time I\u2019d hire someone they would wash out. As the leader, I take responsibility. There was not a good process in place. Nothing to ensure success,\u201d Evans said.<\/p>\n\n\n

The owner of Evans Auto Sales in York, S.C., worked with consultants to develop a hiring process that has helped him grow his business and staff. Evans will share his strategies for hiring with fellow dealers during his retail session \u201cLessons on hiring that changed my dealership\u201d at the 2024 NIADA Convention and Expo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt took a lot of time and effort to get here,\u201d Evans said. \u201cYou have to be dedicated to the process. But it\u2019s worked. I doubled my net income, and it opened up more opportunities. I\u2019m now competing with the franchise dealers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evans points out dealers must be intentional when hiring and onboarding, comparing it to planting a seed that takes time to grow. After developing a process, consistency is critical to helping staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s done so much for me. It\u2019s what I\u2019ve built my dealership on,\u201d Evans said. \u201cI want others to experience that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evans\u2019 presentation is one of several retail breakout sessions during the NIADA Convention and Expo June 17-20 at the Wynn in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full education lineup features five tracks in addition to retail \u2013 BHPH, management, marketing and compliance. The largest convention and expo for the used car dealer features more than 50 hours of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
