The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held an executive session Wednesday, where the nomination of Jonathan Morrison to be Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was reported favorably. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee vote was 16 to 12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Morrison served as Chief Counsel at NHTSA during the first Trump Administration and has a strong background in the automotive industry. Prior to joining NHTSA in 2017, Morrison worked as the President of Auto Advisory Services, a legal and compliance consultancy, and as the Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at the California New Car Dealers Association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
NHTSA is responsible for establishing and enforcing federal motor vehicle safety standards and fuel economy, as part of the Corporate Average Fuel Economy system. The agency also issues recall notices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Morrison\u2019s nomination is expected to be approved by full U.S. Senate later this year. <\/p>\n
