The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is nearing its end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, the Senate passed legislation to reopen the federal government after eight Democrats joined Republicans to break the impasse. The measure passed by a vote of 60-40, with one Republican voting no due to objections over a policy provision included in the bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The legislation now moves to the House of Representatives. It was expected to be voted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The package includes three full-year appropriations bills, provides full funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program through the end of next September, and extends short-term funding for the rest of the government through January 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
