{"id":6716,"date":"2026-01-07T14:24:47","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T20:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/?p=6716"},"modified":"2026-01-07T17:18:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T23:18:25","slug":"vehicles-with-rolled-back-odometers-increase-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/niada.com\/dashboard\/vehicles-with-rolled-back-odometers-increase-in-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicles with rolled back odometers increased in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of cars on the road in the U.S. with rolled back, fraudulent odometers rose by 14 percent in the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carfax.com\/press\/odometer-rollbacks-jump-dec-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new study from CARFAX<\/a> estimates that 2.45 million vehicles have odometers that have been rolled back. The 14 percent increase in 2025 followed a 4 percent spike between 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOdometer rollbacks occur when someone alters the mileage stored in a vehicle\u2019s electronic systems to make it appear less driven,\u201d said Faisal Hasan, Vice President of Data Acquisition at CARFAX in a press release. \u201cAs modern vehicles have transitioned from mechanical to digital odometers, tampering has unfortunately become more common due to the wider availability of inexpensive tools. At the same time, a car\u2019s mileage is now recorded more often, which helps us identify discrepancies and better protect consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CARFAX estimates the loss in value from the rollbacks at $3,300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">California had more than 530,000 suspected vehicles with rolled back odometers. Texas had an estimated 333,000.
