Independent dealers who use ACV Auctions to source or resell wholesale inventory should watch a major shift now underway in the vehicle remarketing space. Copart, the global vehicle auction company best known for salvage and total-loss sales, has agreed to acquire ACV in a deal that could reshape how dealers buy and sell used vehicles online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announced September 11, Copart will acquire all outstanding shares of ACV common stock for $10.50 per share in cash, an implied equity value of approximately $1.9 billion. The price represents a roughly 45% premium to ACV’s stock price before reports of a potential deal surfaced in August, and about 41% above ACV’s 30-day average trading price. The boards of both companies have unanimously approved the transaction, which is expected to close by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copart says the combination pairs ACV’s digital wholesale platform for dealer-to-dealer resale with its own global buyer network and more than 250 physical locations. Following the close, ACV will continue operating as an independent subsidiary under its existing leadership team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For dealers who rely on ACV for wholesale inventory, the coming months of integration planning are worth monitoring.<\/p>\n
