On September 17, the Senate Banking Committee voted 13-11 to advance the nomination of Brian Johnson to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The timing of full Senate consideration remains uncertain. With the Senate currently scheduled to recess no later than October 2, it is unclear whether Johnson will be confirmed before the midterm elections or during the fall \u201clame duck\u201d session. If the Senate does not act before the 120th Congress begins in January, President Trump would need to resubmit Johnson\u2019s nomination. If confirmed, Johnson would become just the third Senate-confirmed CFPB Director and the first to serve under President Trump since his return to office.<\/p>\n
