CARFAX report finds many Americans behind on car maintenance

Almost one-third of American drivers are behind on their oil changes.

According to a new CARFAX report, 29 percent of vehicle owners are behind on oil changes and 44 percent haven’t rotated tires as required.

The information was obtained from reviewing alerts and service records for 35 million vehicles in the CARFAX Car Care Program.

“Well-maintained vehicles last longer, cost owners less over time, and are worth more when it’s time to sell them,” said Paul Nadjarian, General Manager of CARFAX Car Care. “Our free Car Care program helps vehicle owners stay on top of their maintenance schedule with helpful reminders. It not only gives current owners more confidence in their vehicle, it builds confidence in future owners as well.”

The states with the most car owners behind on maintenance are in Alaska, West Virginia, Maine, Rhode Island and Mississippi. The states with the most drivers up-to-date on maintenance are Wisconsin, Minnesota, Utah, Nevada and Virginia.
