FTC to send refunds to American Vehicle Protection customers

The Federal Trade Commission will be sending $449,000 in refunds to consumers following its action against American Vehicle Protection Corp.

The FTC announced the complaint against the Florida-based company in 2022, alleging it misrepresented the vehicle coverage in marketing, claimed to be associated with the manufacturer or dealer, and claimed consumers could get a full refund of their down payment within 30 days.

A settlement was reached in March 2023 with the operators being barred from the extended automobile industry and all outbound telemarketing. American Vehicle Protection also faced $6.5 million fine.

The FTC is returning money to 18,225 consumers of American Vehicle Protection Corp.
