Carfax has expanded its vehicle history reports to include a forward-looking reliability assessment — a feature the company says is an industry first.
Unlike general reliability ratings based on make and model, the new score is VIN-specific, factoring in each vehicle’s individual ownership, service, and damage history. Carfax draws on more than 151,000 data sources and 35 billion records to generate the metric.
The reliability score now appears at the top of Carfax Reports alongside historical data, current history-based value, and anticipated future repairs with estimated costs. According to Carfax, the feature is designed to give both buyers and dealers a more complete picture of a vehicle’s lifecycle at a glance.
For dealers, the practical implication is straightforward: customers will arrive with more information about the vehicles they’re considering — including potential repair needs down the road. Like any research your sales team would do before chatting with a customer, this is another tool to be aware of.
