Dealers head to Washington to serve as voice for industry

Independent dealers from across the nation will serve as the voice of the industry during meetings with dozens of members of the U.S. Congress at the NIADA Policy Conference.

The NIADA Policy Conference begins Monday, Sept. 23, at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City and runs through Wednesday, Sept. 25, and the Day on the Hill.

Independent dealers will discuss with lawmakers during the Policy Conference:

• The Repair Act – gives consumers and dealers access to their motor vehicle data, critical repair information and tools to repair their vehicles to promote consumer choice, consumer control and safety.

• The REDO Act – requires the FTC to rework the CARS Rule to avoid negative impacts on consumers and automobile dealers.

• Preventing Auto Recycling Theft Act – assists law enforcement in combatting catalytic converter theft by marking catalytic converters and creating a more transparent market that deters its theft.

“The Policy Conference is one of the best events of the year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for dealers to come to D.C. and interact with their representatives and senators and hear from the regulators in D.C. about the laws and regulations that impact our business,” said Don Griffin, President of CarHop Auto Sales.

A select group of dealers will meet with the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Tuesday and share information about their visit during a general session.

Nearly 20 lawmakers will attend the NIADA Congressional Reception Monday at the Capitol Hill Club.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (Alabama) will speak the beginning of the NIADA PAC Dinner Tuesday, Sept. 24.
