Ford and Chrysler recently issued recalls impacting thousands of vehicles.

Ford recalled nearly 500,000 2016-19 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles for an issue with the rear brake jounce hose rupturing and leaking brake fluid. The issue can extend stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration notice. The hoses were in production between November 2014 and December 2017.

Ford also recalled 1.4 million vehicles for an issue with the rearview camera displaying a distorted, inverted or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse. The models impacted are 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles.

Chrysler issued a recall for more than 91,000 2022-26 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid vehicles for a software error within the hybrid control processor that may result in a loss of drive power. The software was used between July 23, 2021, and Aug. 29, 2025.

A CARFAX report notes that there are 54.6 million vehicles with unrepaired recalls, which is down 4 million from last year. But there are currently 725,000 vehicles on the road with “do not drive” recalls. Automakers and NHTSA issue the “do not drive” warning when a vehicle’s defect is so severe that it should not be driven under any circumstances.

With safety recalls, NIADA encourages dealers to disclose known information when selling a vehicle with an open safety recall. However, dealers should only make representations about any vehicle they know to be accurate. Misrepresentation may be actionable under the FTC UDAP or state deceptive trade practice laws. All consumers are encouraged to check the safercar.gov website prior to purchasing a vehicle and check for an open safety recall.
