Dealers will hear straight from the Federal Trade Commission on the agency’s direction on regulating the used vehicle industry during the NIADA Policy Conference.
The FTC will take part in the education session Sept. 15, the opening day of the NIADA Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.
Registration is now open at niada.com/policyconference for the Sept. 15-16 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. NIADA’s negotiated room rate of $299 a night is available until Aug. 19. Rooms are limited.
Under the Trump Administration, the FTC is under new leadership, with Andrew Ferguson as chairman. The FTC in June published an updated list of Frequently Asked Questions on the Safeguards Rule specifically for motor vehicle dealers. The agency’s rule on Unfair and Deceptive Fees took effect in May.
The agency, which levied several fines against dealerships under the previous chair, has not announced any new penalties in the motor vehicle space recently. The agency also did not appeal the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to have the agency vacate the Combatting Auto Retail Scams rule.
Along with the update from the FTC, NIADA will also hold a pair of panel discussions. Attendees will hear from a cross-section of industry representatives on legislation and regulations impacting the used vehicle market. Representatives from several state associations will also share information on their victories and challenges in state houses and agencies during the past legislative session.
The education sessions will be followed by the NIADA Political Action Committee Dinner.
The following day, dealers and industry members will head to Capitol Hill to hold more than 100 meetings with lawmakers and their staffs, discussing issues important to the industry.
Between meetings, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at the Library of Congress.
After the final meetings, a reception will be held in the U.S. House of Representatives’ Budget Committee Room in the Cannon Building. Republican and Democratic members of the House have been invited to attend the reception to visit with dealers.
Make plans now to attend. Registration is open at niada.com/policyconference.
