The legislative and regulatory changes impacting the used automobile industry in Washington, D.C., will be spotlighted Wednesday during the “It’s a New World at the FTC and CFPB” panel at the NIADA Convention and Expo.

NIADA Director of Government Relations and Compliance Patrick O’Brien and NIADA lobbyist David Pore of Hance Scarborough will join NIADA Legislative and Regulatory Committee Chair Lawrence Meade in the discussion at 3:20 p.m. in Cyan 1-2.

O’Brien, who joined NIADA in May, spent years working with Congress on regulatory and oversight matters related to the CFPB. He will share his insights on what dealers should expect from the FTC and CFPB under the Trump Administration. Pore will discuss the current legislative issues NIADA is monitoring.

O’Brien will also moderate an impactful compliance session, “Compliance For a Good Night’s Sleep,” at 2:20 p.m. in Cyan 4-5.

He will be joined by Tiffany Baker of Car City Supercenter in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Evan Nahmias of City Auto Sales in Memphis, Tennessee; and Eric Wanek of CarHop Auto Sales in Auburn, Washington. The dealers will discuss the practices and processes they use to stay on top of the compliance nightmare.

The compliance sessions are on top of a full lineup of education Wednesday, which includes the Dealer Rounds. See the lineup at niada.com/convention. Also, dealers should make plans to be in the expo hall at 6:30 p.m. for the cash drawing, scavenger hunt and the NIADA Foundation Auction. A sporty BMW 335i xDrive, with 68,500 miles donated by Manheim, a Cox Automotive company, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All proceeds will benefit the NIADA Foundation, a non-profit organization established to provide emergency relief to independent auto dealers and to support automotive industry education.
