A State of the Industry panel, featuring members of several auto and finance associations, will lead off the NIADA Policy Conference.
The NIADA Policy Conference returns to Washington, D.C., Sept. 15-16, at the Omni Shoreham. Registration for the conference is now open at niada.com/policyconference. NIADA’s negotiated room rate of $299 a night is available until Aug. 19. Rooms are limited.
NIADA Director of Government Relations and Compliance Patrick O’Brien will lead the panel discussion at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 15, covering the current status of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, regulation of auto financing, right to repair legislation, auto auction industry policies and the impact of tariffs on dealers. He will be joined by members of the American Financial Services Association, National Auto Auction Association and Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association.
“We hope to provide dealers and industry members with insight on the legislative and regulatory environment and its impact on the used vehicle industry,” O’Brien said. “All the panelists will bring a unique perspective and be able to illustrate how policy will impact dealers, large and small, and the supporting businesses.”

The panel is only part of the full education lineup. The FTC will provide an update on the agency’s regulatory direction in the new administration. Representatives from several state associations will also share information on the issues they’ve faced in state houses during the past legislative session. There will also be an overview of the NIADA’s legislative priorities and best practices for engaging with lawmakers and their staff representatives.
The day will conclude with the NIADA Political Action Committee Reception and Dinner.
The following day, dealers and industry members will head to Capitol Hill for meetings with lawmakers and their staff, discussing issues important to the industry. Attendees will enjoy lunch at the Library of Congress. The Day on the Hill will conclude with a reception in the U.S. House of Representatives’ Budget Committee Room in the Cannon Building. Republican and Democratic members of the House have been invited to attend the reception to visit with dealers.
