NIADA is the only voice representing the used vehicle industry on the national level, meeting with federal agencies – the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commission and IRS – and legislators on issues impacting independent dealers.
You can help support our legislative and regulatory efforts as we advocate for the industry with a donation to the NIADA Advocacy/Regulatory Fund.
This fund does not support individual candidates or committees and is NOT a contribution to the NIADA PAC. As a 501(c)(6), donations to NIADA association are not tax deductible.
Here are some of the advocacy efforts by the NIADA in the past year:
June 2024 – NIADA participates with the Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service and other industry partners in a White House round table discussing pre-owned EV tax credits for consumers as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.
June 2024: NIADA brings representatives of the Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and IRS to Convention to meet with dealers and answer questions about industry regulations and rules.
April 2024: NIADA joins Texas IADA in filing an amicus brief to the NADA and Texas ADA lawsuit in the Fifth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals, asking for the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed Combatting Auto Retail Scams rule to be vacated.
February 2024: NIADA spearheads a coalition of GPS and Starter Interrupt providers to meet with law enforcement and Legal Aid of Chicago on the use of the devices and educating them on how they protect consumers and dealers.
February 2024: NIADA submits comments to the Federal Trade Commission on the proposed Trade Regulation Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, pointing out the ambiguity in the new rule and the lack of guidance on specific fees that are unfair and deceptive. It also points out it is redundant to existing state and federal laws.
January 2024: NIADA partners with Hudson Cook law firm to hold a webinar on the recently announced Combatting Auto Retail Scams rule, which would profoundly change how auto and truck dealers advertise vehicles, communicate with their customers and sell vehicle protection products.
November 2023: NIADA meets with Secretary of State in Indiana to advocate for the adoption of the dealer education course in Indiana, which was signed into law in the spring of 2024.
September 2023: NIADA members hold more than 100 meetings on Capitol Hill with legislators during the NIADA Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. NIADA also holds meetings with Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
