NIADA was encouraged by President Trump’s recent remarks from the Oval Office highlighting the need for commonsense right-to-repair legislation. While the legislation approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee on May 21 represents an important step forward, it does not fully address all of NIADA’s concerns.
We are hopeful that President Trump’s support for right-to-repair, combined with his influence within the House Republican Conference, will encourage lawmakers to restore key provisions from H.R. 1566, the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair Act, and incorporate them into the Safety Title of the 2026 Surface Transportation Reauthorization legislation.
