Walters provides lessons for dealers at BHPH Dealer Forum

BHPH legend Ingram Walters closed out the Dealer Forum by telling dealers “The 10 Things It Took Me 20 Years to Learn.”

Walters, a North Carolina native, carved a niche for himself in the real estate and automotive industries over a 30-year career. An alumnus of North Carolina State University, he holds a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Business Administration.

Ingram’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to the used car sector. In 1999 he and Ken Shilson started NABD to help educate BHPH Dealers.

Walters walked dealers through what he focused on in building his BHPH business, collections, spending and what he owed.

“Those are the three big rocks I always focused on every week,” Walters said.

He told dealers about how his grandfather set his gas station apart from nearby competitors by using a whiskbroom to sweep out the floorboards in customers’ vehicles. He encouraged dealers to find their “whiskbroom.”

“What are you doing different to make customers buy from you? Before you leave, determine your whiskbroom,” Walters said.
