Bill Hancock cleared off a spot on a shelf behind his desk and proudly placed the NIADA PAC Cup among family photos, and other memorabilia he has collected over the years.
Hancock and his wife, Rita, own and operate Bill Hancock Motors in Albertville, Ala.
“We will keep the Cup here for a while, and then we will take it to some other dealerships in Region II,” Hancock said. “We will tell dealers, if they make a contribution to the PAC, we will bring the cup by. This may become a thing.”
The PAC Cup recognizes the region that raises and contributes the most money to the NIADA Political Action Committee each year. Region II garnered the honor during the NIADA Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., raising $43,350.
In all, the four regions raised a combined $100,950 for the NIADA PAC fund.
In previous years, the Cup was displayed at the NIADA Office and only appeared during the annual trip to the capitol.
Last year during the Policy Conference dinner, where most of the PAC dollars are raised, NIADA CEO Jeff Martin and Hancock started some friendly banter about whether or not Region II could raise more money than the other regions. Martin told Hancock, if he contributed enough to help Region II win, he would personally deliver the trophy to his dealership. Tuesday, Martin made good on that bet.
Jennifer and James Harlow from A & D Motors in Arab, Ala. were also on hand to receive the cup.
“It’s coming to our dealership next, and then back to Region II next year,” he said.
The NIADA PAC was established to financially support candidates who share the vision for the future of the independent dealer and who will continue to support the used automobile industry.
