If you list inventory on CarGurus, this affects you directly: the platform now reports that more than 90% of used vehicle listings from subscribing dealers include disclosed fees, following a policy change that took effect July 14, 2026. Dealers who haven’t updated their listings to reflect all-in pricing may already be seeing the impact on their search visibility.
Under the new policy, listings without disclosed fees receive a “No Rating” designation and are pushed lower in search results. CarGurus has also revised its Deal Rating and Instant Market Value (IMV) calculations to factor in disclosed fees rather than list price alone, and added consumer-facing tools including fee disclosure badges, cost breakdowns, and a filter that lets shoppers exclude listings without disclosed fees.
CarGurus CEO Jason Trevisan said the changes were designed to “address head-on one of the biggest pain points between the online and in-dealership experience: knowing whether the list price reflects the vehicle’s total cost.”
The update follows continued pressure from the Federal Trade Commission on dealer advertising and pricing transparency. CarGurus says most dealers came into compliance well ahead of the July deadline.
